Unit price comparison
Compare package price divided by quantity using the same quantity unit.
How this works
For each option, unit price = package price ÷ quantity. Compare the two unrounded unit prices and report the lower one. Both quantities must be positive and expressed in the same unit, such as kilograms, liters or item count.
Example
The illustration may use different inputs from the reproducible default inputs listed below.
The defaults give A: $12/8 = $1.50 per unit and B: $20/16 = $1.25 per unit, so B has the lower unit price. With all reset-default inputs, lower cost per unit: Option B.
- Option A price ($)
- 12
- Option A quantity (same units)
- 8
- Option B price ($)
- 20
- Option B quantity (same units)
- 16
- Lower cost per unit
- Option B
Scope and assumptions
Does not convert quantity units or assess product quality, waste, delivery charges or discounts not reflected in price. Currency displays are rounded, so very close options may show the same displayed unit price even when the unrounded comparison differs.
